There is no doubt that our society is conditioned to see beautiful people as more desirable and successful and while this can be a huge detriment as a whole it will continue into the near future. In our single serving society people often pursue fast weight loss as a means to meet their goals. I believe that most people realize that any type of rapid weight loss may not be optimal in terms of health however it is often the only option available.
Fasting has been shown to be a safe and effective tool that can be used to drop weight rapidly. It can also serve as a measure of will power and can strengthen inner resolve. I hesitate to suggest any type of fasting program because I believe that it is one of least effective long term weight loss solutions but for someone looking to drop 10 lbs in a week it is an option. There are many options to fasting programs and intermittent fasting is always effective but I find the famous lemonade cleanse to be very effective.
I have my doubts about the cleanse claims of this program but I have no doubts about its ability to take weight off quickly. Most people drop 5 – 15 lbs during a 10 day cleanse.
Be forewarned, this fast will test your mental resolve and zap your energy. Exercising during this time period is basically ineffective and torturous. But when you are only consuming a fraction of the necessary calories needed to sustain daily activity weight falls off extremely quickly, if you sit on the couch.
To be clear this fast is in essence not a fast at all but a sugar diet with the main source of calories coming from grade B maple syrup. The diet does include some nutrients in the form of lemon juice but don’t kid yourself you stand to loose significant strength on this diet. When you remove protein from your diet for a week or more your body enters a severely catabolic state. It only takes a night of sleep to put your body into a catabolic state so what do you expect to happen after a week or more. You will loose strength.
So who is this strategy for? People looking to make big changes fast. People that want a challenge and look forward to cleaning out some junk. People that are severely overweight and have not done much or any weight training. People looking for something different.
Who is this not for? People who focus on building muscle. People who require lots of energy. People who eat a fairly clean diet already and have no need to do any type of detox.
Lets be real and realize the limitations of this fad and understand that it can be used for fast weight loss but it is not a cure all or for everyone.
